Project Overview
Utilizing cutting-edge green technology, this $271 million project transforms the way WSSC handles biosolids from all five of their water resource recovery facilities, significantly reducing the volume and creating Class A biosolids to be used as fertilizer.
The project includes a cake receiving facility for imported sludge, a new 92.6 dtpd Cambi Thermal Hydrolysis Process, a combined heat and power facility, pre- and post-dewatering presses, two anaerobic digesters, and sidestream treatment. The overall process reduces operating costs by more than $3 million per year, reduces greenhouse gas emissions 15% by capturing and cleaning the digester gas to help power the facility, and produces pipeline-grade natural gas.
